Traffic restrictions for Tall Ships Festival, August 23rd to 26th

Tall Ships Festival 2012

A request has been received from Tall Ships 2012 Ltd for the following temporary road closures to facilitate the Tall Ships Festival 2012.
  • The Samuel Beckett Bridge, Guild St and Cardiff Lane will be closed from 08.00hrs to 24.00hrs on Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th, and Saturday 25th August and from 08.00hrs to 20.00hrs on Sunday 26th August, 2012.
  • The East Link Bridge will operate at a reduced rate for the duration of the event, with bridge lifts in operation, especially on Thursday 23rd August, 2012 to facilitate entry of Tall ships, and on Sunday 26th August, 2012 to facilitate egress of Tall Ships.
  • Samuel Beckett Bridge from 08.00hrs on Thursday 23rd August, 2012 to 12.00hrs on Sunday 26th August, 2012.
  • South Dock Road from 10.00hrs on Thursday 23rd August, 2012 to 20.00hrs on Sunday 26th August, 2012.    
The following roads will be closed from 07.00hrs on Thursday 23rd August, 2012 to 22.00hrs on Sunday 26th August, 2012. 

Custom House Quay, North Wall Quay, Commons Street (from Custom House Quay to Mayor Street Lower), Guild Street (from North Wall Quay to Mayor Street Lower), New Wapping Street (from North Wall Quay to Mayor Street Upper), Castleforbes Road (from North Wall Quay to Mayor Street Upper), Park Lane (from North Wall Quay to Mayor Street Upper), City Quay, Sir John Rogersons Quay, Prince’s Street South, Gloucester Street South, Lombard Street East (from City Quay to Townsend Street), Creighton Street (from City Quay to Hanover Street East), Windmill Lane,  Lime Street (from Sir John Rogersons Quay to Hanover Street East), Cardiff Lane (from Sir John Rogersons Quay to Misery Hill), Misery Hill, Laser Lane, Hibernian Road, Forbes Street, Horse Fair, Blood Stoney Road, Hanover Quay, Benson Street, Asgard Road, Green Street East, Britain Quay.

Traffic Management Plan
  • South city traffic wishing to cross the Liffey at Samuel Beckett Bridge will be diverted via Pearse Street, Tara Street and Butt Bridge.
  • North city traffic wishing to cross the Liffey at Samuel Beckett Bridge will be diverted via Amiens Street, Memorial Road and Talbot Memorial Bridge.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained.
If you're attending the Tall Ships Festival, take public transport! Many Dublin Bus routes run to the city centre, though diversions will be in place for the event.
The Luas runs to the Docklands and has a number of Park and Ride facilities, see the Luas website for more info.

Traffic restrictions for Irish Olympic team homecoming celebrations

The Irish Olympic team homecoming celebrations take place tomorrow. As a result, road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect from 6am to 4pm. 

ROAD CLOSURES 

Dawson Street (buses only allowed from 6am to 10am, then closed to ALL traffic) 
Molesworth St (between Dawson & South Fredrick St) 
St Stephens Green (except the Contra-Flow bus lane to Leeson St and access to Stephens Green South from Leeson St) 
Cuffe St (traffic heading to Dawson Street) 

PARKING RESTRICTIONS

St Stephens Green North (between Kildare & Dawson St) 
South Fredrick St (between Molesworth St & Setanta Place) 

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES for traffic that would normally travel on Dawson Street: 
  • Traffic intending to travel north via St Stephens Green East and Dawson Street from Leeson Street Bridge should divert onto Fitzwilliam Street, Merrion Square East & North, Westland Row, Pearse St, Tara St, North or South Quays and then back onto normal route
  • Traffic intending to travel north via St Stephens Green East and Dawson Street from Cuffe St and St Stephens Green South should divert via Patrick St, Nicholas St, Christchurch, Winetavern St, North or South Quays and then back onto normal route
ACCESS TO CAR PARKS 
  • The Dawson & Setanta Car Parks can be accessed via Kildare St, School House Lane, Molesworth Place and South Fredrick St 
  • The Stephens Green and RCSI Car Parks can ONLY be accessed via York St, or Stephen St and Mercer St
