Ironman 70.3 Road Closures Sunday August 9th
IRONMAN 70.3 Dublin is hitting the streets of Dublin this Sunday morning. This insanely grueling event is going to make it's way from Blackrock to the Phoenix Park and off out to Meath.
This will require a number of road courses. The biggest of which while be the North quays closing, thus stopping any traffic from crossing the liffey from 7.00 to 10.45.

DUBLIN CITY 7AM - 10:30AM
The bike course will travel north from Dun Laoghaire, skirting Dublin Bay, over the Eastlink Bridge and head through the city on the North Quays, before entering Phoenix Park.
NOTE: There will be no vehicle crossing of the Liffey through Dublin City during the above times. Vehicles requiring access to the north or south of the city should use M50 to the most suitable alternative route.
DUBLIN NORTH
All bridges across the Lifey River in Dublin City between the East Link Toll Bridge and the Frank Sherwin Bridge will be closed on Sunday 9th August between 7am and 10:15am. Access across the bridges during the time will be for emergency service vehicles only. If you wish to travel South during the closure time you will need to take the M50 which will be open at all stages throughout the day. If your travel plans take you, West of Dublin on the day please be aware of other closures across Fingal, Meath and Kildare.

BLACKROCK 5AM –10AM
The bike course travels along Seapoint Ave onto Frascati Road heading north to Rock Road and crossing the Dart line at Merrion Gates, continuing along Strand Road. Between 5am and 10am there will be no vehicle access into Blackrock. The bottom of Craysfort Road and Mount Merrion Avenue will be shut. Pedestrians may cross the course when safe to do so.
BOOTERSTOWN 5AM – 10AM
The bottom of Booterstown Avenue will be closed till 10am. Access to the Dart station will be by foot only. Access on to Rock Road will be closed from St Helens Road, Trimleton Ave, Bellevue Avenue and Heskin Court. Access to Booterstown, Monkstown and Dun Laoghaire from Merrion Road would be via Nutley Lane / Stilorgan Road.
Clonee to Lucan Diversion
Join the M4\N4 towards Dublin taking the M50 north to the N3, heading west and exiting at Junction 4 for Clonee.
DUN LAOGHAIRE 4AM – 9.30AM
There will be full access to Dun Laoghaire town but no access to the Harbour during the hours of 4am till 9.30am. The swim starts from Sandycove with closed roads all around this area. The Transition from swim to bike takes place on the green at Marine Parade. We would suggest local swimmers use the Forty Foot to enter the water between 6am till 9am as the Sandycove area will be very busy with 2,500 athletes entering the water. Sandycove Ave North & West,Otranto Place, Marine Parade,Newtownsmith, Windsor Terrace, Queens Road, Crofton Road, Dunleary Road and Seapoint Avenue will all be closed to traffic between 4am – 9.30am. Access to Monkstown and Dun Laoghaire would be from Newtown Park Avenue, Monkstown Road and York Road. Georges Street, Summerhill Road and Glasthule are unaffected.
DUNBOYNE 8.00AM – 12.00AM
Coming from Dublin City Centre, Phoenix park, Luttrellstown Road and passing Westmanstown Complex the bike course takes a right off the R121 and another right and over Collins Bridge onto the R149 continuing along Barnhill Road and then left off the R149 onto L2222 heading into Dunboyne, passing Dunboyne Athletic Club on Rooske Road turning left on to Main Street / Station Road. The Course continues through Dunboyne onto Summerhill Road, straight through the Roundabout and onto the R156. This section of the R149 / L2222 / Rooske Road will be fully closed to traffic between 8am – 12noon. The Dublin Road, Navan Road and Maynooth Roads will be open to traffic but will not be able to cross the course in Dunboyne Town at peak race times. There will be no car access out from Plunkett Hall & Lutterell Hall onto Summerhill Road during these times.
There will be a contra flow on the right hand side of the road on Main Street travelling East on to Station Road / Dublin Road from the Navan Road.
Dunboyne to Maynooth Diversion
Travel east towards Clonee and take the R147 towards Dunshaughlin, turning onto the R154, L2210 and R158 for Kilcock. The M4 then provides access to Maynooth, with non-motorway traffic travelling via Laragh to the Newtown Road.
IRISHTOWN 6AM – 10AM
The bike course takes a right off Beach Road onto Sean Moore Road and takes the left exit at the roundabout towards the East Link Bridge. There will be no access on to Sean Moore Road between 6am and 10am. The East Link Bridge will also be closed to traffic between 6am and 10.15am. Traffic travelling to the Northside between 6am and 10:15am will need to do so via the M50.
KILCOCK 8.00AM – 1.00PM
The bike course enters Kilcock from the R125 continuing through Main Street where the course continues down the New Rd and turns left along the R148 / Kilcock Road towards Maynooth. There is no access onto this section of Road during 8am till 1pm. There is no access across the course at Jacksons Bridge.
Lucan to Clonee Diversion
Travel east to the M3 and continue east to the M50. South on the M50 to the N4 junction, taking the N4 and then M4 west to junction 4 Lucan.
MAYNOOTH 8.30AM – 1.30PM
The course enters the outskirts of Maynooth on the Kilcock Road and will take a left into Maynooth College and exit onto the Moyglare Road heading north towards Anne’s Bridge and taking a right towards Pound Hill. Maynooth town is generally unaffected but you will not be able to exit the town on the Kilcock Road instead use Parson Street/ Newtown Road if travelling west. The course continues to the T Junction at the west side of Carton House turning left on the R157 and heading straight on to Kellystown gate and onto the R149 / Confrey Road. There will be no access to this road from Captains Hill. The Course turns right and over Collins Bridge and travels straight on towards Laraghcon.
Maynooth to Dunboyne Diversion
Travel south on the R406 to M4. Traffic will have the option of travelling east on the M4 to the M50, north on M50 to the N3, heading towards Dunboyne and exiting at Junction 4 travelling through Clonee on the R147 to Dunboyne. Alternatively traffic can travel west on M4 to Junction 8 Kilcock, travel north on R158 to Summerhill roundabout, take the L2210 to R154 eastbound and R147 towards Clonee for access to Dunboyne.
RINGSEND 6AM – 10AM
The course continues over the East Link Bridge and along North Wall Quay and stays on the North Quays all the way up to Park Gate Street. Traffic exiting the Port Tunnel will not be able to access the East Link Bridge until after 10.15am. There will be no access to the North Quays. Traffic travelling Northside to Southside or Southside to Northside will have to do so via the M50 until after 10.15am.
SANDYMOUNT 6AM – 10AM
There will be no access on to Strand Road and Beach Road between 6am and 10am
SUMMERHILL 8.00AM – 12.00AM
After leaving Dunboyne the course continues along the R156 Summerhill Road for a number of kilometres until the junction at the R125 taking a left towards Kilcock. Cars travelling south along R125 will be able to turn right onto the R156 at this junction and will be able to access the M4 or Kilcock via the R407.

Alternatively traffic can travel west on M4 to Junction 8 Kilcock, travel north on R158 to Summerhill roundabout, take the L2210 to R154 eastbound and R147 towards Clonee for access to Dunboyne.
RINGSEND 6AM – 10AM
The course continues over the East Link Bridge and along North Wall Quay and stays on the North Quays all the way up to Park Gate Street. Traffic exiting the Port Tunnel will not be able to access the East Link Bridge until after 10.15am. There will be no access to the North Quays. Traffic travelling Northside to Southside or Southside to Northside will have to do so via the M50 until after 10.15am.
SANDYMOUNT 6AM – 10AM
There will be no access on to Strand Road and Beach Road between 6am and 10am
SUMMERHILL 8.00AM – 12.00AM
After leaving Dunboyne the course continues along the R156 Summerhill Road for a number of kilometres until the junction at the R125 taking a left towards Kilcock. Cars travelling south along R125 will be able to turn right onto the R156 at this junction and will be able to access the M4 or Kilcock via the R407.
