Worst Car Ad Ever?
The people at Hyundai got it all wrong with this rather tasteless ad, which some of you may find offensive and upsetting. .But is it the worst car ad of all time?
Since we posted this Hyundai Ireland have been in touch with us, and said the following regarding the advertisement:
"Hyundai Ireland would like to confirm we view this material as wholly irresponsible and we have no involvement of such material"
How about these from Ford India:
This, however is just a bad ad.

It's sort of like road roulette, you never know which one is closing when!
There will be plenty of local signage and these are minor roads so disruptions should be at a minimum.

What's your biggest gripe with other road users?
I am the first to admit it, I'm a moaner about other road users, especially in my car and under my breath.
My number one gripe, is indicators! To some drivers it's a mysterious Harry Potteresque wand that sits beside the steering wheel. To others it's rarely used and when it is, it's as the car is already making its turn, maneuver or as the car begins to drift between lanes.
According to the RAC it's the second worst driver habit, the top ten are as follows.
1. Driving whilst using a mobile phone
2. Not indicating correctly
3. Tailgating
4. Crossing solid white lines
5. Lane hogging
6. Driving around with fog lights on when it's not necessary
7. Not knowing what lane you should be in
8. Queue jumping
9. Not wearing a seat belt
10. Driving through amber lights when you should really be stopping.

This coming Saturday, April 20th, hundreds will queue outside Tower Records, Wicklow Street and Easons, O’Connell Street, vying to be amongst the first to scramble through the doors at 9am. Their mission: to nab the much sought after limited edition exclusive Record Store Day releases from many of the world’s biggest artists, from Bowie to Bush, Dylan to Hendrix, Cave to Drake to Gza to Zappa and hundreds in between! What releases will be available for music zealots to purchase is pretty much anyone’s guess. Tower Records put in the orders for copies of all Record Store Day releases and then the wait commences. Big brown boxes arrive, their skins are peeled back and their Record Store Day crgo is revealed. A little of this, a lot of that, hardly any of one, none of another.
A worldwide occasion to celebrate the independent record store, Record Store Day 2013 at Tower Records Dublin will feature a myriad of fun stuff – free Captain Americanos coffee courtesy of Captain Americas from 6.30am for all the freezing souls queuing on Wicklow Street; the ultimate rock’n’roll breakfast from 9am in Tower Soundbites Café, followed by delicious coffees, cakes and lunches all day long and acoustic sets from Owensie and The Twilight Sad; legendary Bray goodie purveyors Teddy’s will be doling out the creamy ices from around 11am ‘til the afternoon compliments of Tower; cool Tower Record balloons for the kids, to go with their epic first album purchases and a number of special items to purchase such as signed albums, posters and artwork from a variety of acts including Phoenix, Biffy Clyro, Lewis Watson and more.
Tower Live on Record Store Day will take place at Madison Nightclub just beside the shop on Wicklow Street. The schedule has now been confirmed and will run approximately as follows. Doors open at 12.30pm. All the concerts are free but admission is by wristband only. Wristbands can be collected from the stall in the front window of the Wicklow Street store from 9am on Saturday morning. Young people are very welcome up until 6pm. A Gig For Erin
On February 17th, while heading into town from Dalkey, Erin Kenny got off the DART at Tara St. Station and slipped into the path of the departing train. Throughout that night and the following days she fought for her life in intensive care in St. James Hospital. Miraculously she survived though she had numerous internal injuries, broken bones and lost her right leg. Erin has set up a blog to talk about her experiences, you can read that here.
Close friends of Erin's, artists Danny O'Reilly, Mary Black and RóisÃn O, have decided to put on a gig to raise money for Erin's cause in Whelans on May 29th. Tickets for A Gig For Erin are priced at €25 and can be bought from www.wavtickets.ie
As a single Mam, Erin will have to face many physical and financial difficulties in the months and years to come and all proceeds will go to helping her and her daughter Lily through this difficult time.
They are aiming to raise enough money to buy Erin a specially adapted car to give her and Lily some independence and help them get back to a normal life.
All donations are greatly appreciated. Cheques can be addressed to The Erin Kenny Trust and sent to; Unit 5F South City Business Park, Whitestown Way, Tallaght, Dublin 24. If you'd rather wait to send a bank transfer, the account should be up and running this week and we'll post the details then.

Road Safety Alert - Strong Winds
Met have released an orange weather warning for this evening, as strong gale force winds are expected, it is VERY windy out there at the moment. In case you're wondering what an orange alert is:
Be seen. Wear bright clothing with reflective armbands or a reflective belt
Take extra care when near traffic or crossing the road in extremely windy conditions as a sudden gust of wind could blow you into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Walk on a footpath, not in the street. Walk on the right hand side of the road, facing traffic if there are no footpaths
"weather conditions which have the capacity to impact significantly on people in the affected areas. The issue of an Orange level weather warning implies that all recipients in the affected areas should prepare themselves in an appropriate way for the anticipated conditions"
This weather warning is for the country so everyone should take note. Weather warning levels are explained by met HERE.

Some advice for drivers from the RSA (The severe weather advice on the RSA website is great also check their Facebook and Twitter pages)
Beware of objects being blown out onto the road. Expect the unexpected.
Watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road
Control of a vehicle may be affected by strong cross winds. High sided vehicles and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to strong winds
Allow extra space between you and vulnerable road users such as cyclists and motorcyclists
Drive with dipped headlights at all times
Monitor radio weather broadcasts while travelling

Can you name that bridge?
Yes you can!
We spoke about this on the show before, but it really is a great opportunity to have your say in naming a new bridge.
A new bridge is currently being built across the Liffey between Marlborough Street and Hawkins Street. Dublin City Council has recently set up a Commemorative Naming Committee who will consider proposals to honour, celebrate, or remember a person, group of people or events of significance that have helped to shape the City of Dublin.
The Committee are now looking for your help in putting forward suggestions for the naming of the new bridge. This opportunity to assist the Committee in making their final recommendation is open to all members of the public, be it a group or individual.
Application Forms and criteria are available from the Culture, Recreation and Amenity Department of Dublin City Council or can be downloaded in both Irish and English.
Completed application forms can be sent to Commemorative Naming Committee, C/O Culture, Recreation and Amenity Department, Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8 or e-mailed directly to cra@dublincity.ie
The closing date for submissions is Friday 19th April, 2013 at 5.00 p.m.
It's current name is, The Marlborough Street Public Transport Priority Bridge. We can do better!
Producer John always like to point out that no bridge on the Liffey in Dublin City is named after a woman.

Open Air Cinema Festival
This is such a great idea! If you have never had the chance to watch a movie outdoors you now have the opportunity.
Ireland’s first Instant Open Air Cinema Festival will screen, in no particular order and with a mere
36 hours notice, four iconic films over a three week period in the ultimate urban park Fitzwilliam
Square. This is the latest installment by cultural events crew Happening’s who are introducing a
new instant outdoor culture into our city to inspire action, spontaneity and to defy our unpredictable
weather.
The concept is simple. From April 19th the Happening’s team will be glued to met.ie and their
Accuweather apps picking the best weather days before they pick us. As soon as they score on the
weather front they will literally ‘pop up’ the cinema screen and get posting the details on Facebook
and Twitter. Then it’s up to the digital natives to grab the picnic blankets and get the gang together.
The Instant Open Air Cinema Festival is also part of 'Fiver Flicks', another hugely successful
Happening’s initiative screening films in various indoor and outdoor venues around the country,
charging just €5 in. This festival will allow cinema lovers to have a whole new movie experience
immersed in the natural tranquility of this treasure of a city park at a recession friendly price.
At the Fitzwilliam Square festival there will be lots of great food and warm beverages provided by
Irish village Food Markets, so people can come early and grab a bite before stealing their patch in the
park. And in keeping with their ethos of social and environmental responsibility, Happening’s events
operate a strict 'leave no trace' policy so expect to be politely asked on arrival to remember to take
everything home in the complimentary bin bag provided which also serves as a makeshift yet useful
seat and kindly keeps your bottom dry.
The full programme of movies and details of screenings will be posted on the Happening’s Facebook
page www.facebook.com/Happenings1 in the coming weeks. So join us for a festival full of cinematic
treats under the stars.

Let's Get Cultural!
Dublin City Council has launched details of the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter - a new Cultural District for Dublin City
New City Library to form centrepiece of Parnell Square Cultural Quarter development.
Kennedy Wilson, acting on a philanthropic basis, to provide seed capital of € 2.5M and to lead remainder of fundraising.
Lord Mayor calls for public participation in Parnell Square Cultural Quarter planning process / discussion.
Dublin City Manager John Tierney said: ‘’ this project represents a powerful opportunity and catalyst for the redevelopment of this part of Northside Dublin. Dublin City Council is looking forward to working in partnership with Kennedy Wilson and with all the other stakeholders in bringing this major project to fruition.’’
Peter Collins, managing director, Kennedy Wilson Europe said: “Parnell Square has a long association with philanthropy; the Rotunda Maternity Hospital, Britain and Ireland’s first public maternity hospital, built by Dr. Bartholomew Mosse in the 18th century was financed by private donations. Kennedy Wilson is proud to continue this philanthropic heritage through our involvement with this visionary development for Dublin city. As a company we are committed to supporting public projects in the cities in which we are based, that will have a genuine positive impact on the residents of those cities. In addition to providing the seed capital for the project, Kennedy Wilson will be leading the further fund raising effort to secure the finances to deliver this exciting initiative and to help manage the project throughout its development. Kennedy Wilson is committed to providing a lasting legacy for the people of Dublin, and we are delighted to be partnering with the City in the creation of a new cultural district for Dublin City.”
Dublin City Architect, Ali Grehan said: “The Parnell Square Cultural Quarter will be at the heart of the cultural life of the capital, connecting and consolidating the Civic Spine which is a cornerstone of city development policy.
The Parnell Square Cultural Quarter project will see the development of a new city library on the site of Colaiste Mhuire, the re-development of the former Colaiste Mhuire buildings to form the entrance to the new City library and the provision of public rooms for a variety of cultural uses - from music, media, craft and design. 20-21 Parnell Square will also form part of the cultural complex and a pedestrian plaza at the north end of Parnell Square will create new public events space in front of the cultural buildings.
The public is being encouraged to participate in the consultation process around the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter. A series of public meetings and workshops are being planned to help develop a shared understanding of the expectations and needs of all stakeholders; from individuals, community groups, and public representatives to cultural promoters, educational institutions and businesses. These meetings will take place in tandem with the commissioning of the design and will inform the final design brief.

Water Restrictions Update
The following is the latest update from Dublin City Council on the water conservation:
Basically the reductions should be all removed by Friday but some customers may still have water pressure issues for a few days.
Significant improvement in water supply situation since imposition of night time pressure reductions on Thursday 28th March 2013.
As a result of a review held on Thursday 4th April the following phased removal of pressure restrictions will apply.
Nightly hours of restriction for 12 hours - from 7.00pm to 7.00am each day, were in place from - Sunday 31st March to Tuesday morning 2nd April, across the Dublin Region.
On Tuesday 2nd April, as a result of improved storage, the nightly hours of restrictions were reduced to 10 hours from 9 pm to 7.00 am each day.
With effect from Friday 5th April we expect to return to a regular service, albeit with reduced pressures, over the weekend.
The reduced pressure regime will cease when full production is restored at the Roundwood Water Treatment plant.
Dublin City Council wishes to apologise to our customers for the water restrictions we have had to put in place over the past week. Due to the cooperation of all water users, we managed to save a significant amount of water and our regional strategic storage, which was at an extreme and unsustainable low level last Thursday, is almost back to its target level.
We will impose water restrictions tonight, starting at 9pm, but expect to return to a regular service, albeit with reduced pressures, over the weekend starting on Friday night.
We will then continue to review and monitor the storage levels on an ongoing basis, but cannot rule out a return to more stringent restrictions if problems persist or the situation deteriorates.
Water demand is currently running higher than average due to the cold weather, which has caused an increase in leakage particularly on our old Victorian distribution system. Our crews are working flat out repairing any breaks as they arise. To help us in this regard we would ask people to report any location where they see water rising or running.
The single major issue still affecting us is the severe disruption to water production at our Roundwood Treatment Plant. This normally produces 66 million litres a day (out of a maximum of 560 million litres for the entire Dublin Region) but is now down to an average of 40 million litres a day, a shortfall of 26 million litres. There is no problem with storage levels of untreated/raw water and there is no problem with water quality of treated water. The region does not currently have a normal strategic reserve of 10-15% to meet such problems and has at best a limited 1% reserve, which will improve in future with new investment and conservation measures in the planning and construction stage.
In an effort to maintain storage we are asking consumers to assist us in maintaining adequate water supplies by restricting their use of water as much as possible. If all of our customers could reduce their consumption by 5%, and maintain this reduction, restrictions could cease almost immediately.
We expect to implement a gradual phased reduction in restrictions until Roundwood is back in production.
Tonight we will be reducing pressures throughout the system in order to conserve supplies. While we will try, as far as possible, to maintain pressures during peak demand periods, pressures will be reduced at other times. This will result in lower pressures and in some cases possible loss of supply. People may notice reductions in pressure or loss of supply from 9pm to between 7am and 9am throughout the entire city.
Over the weekend, customers should have water supply at their cold taps. They may not always have sufficient pressure at night to fill their storage tanks, but as these will fill during the day, most customers will be unaffected by the pressure reduction. Customers should be aware that unlike some other utilities like ESB, water distribution systems cannot be operated and managed to the point where the exact locations and precise times at which the effects of pressure alterations (both increase and decreases) will be experienced, however we do make every effort to ensure that the times and areas affected are limited.
Dublin City Council regrets any inconvenience caused by these restrictions and will do everything possible to minimise their scale and duration.

Water Conservation Update
Here is the latest update on water conservation and pressures or loss of service in the city for the next two days:
Reductions in pressure and/or loss of supply throughout the entire city
from
9pm (Tuesday 2nd April) to between 7am and 9am (Wednesday 3rd April)
and from
9pm (Wednesday 3rd April) to between 7am and 9am (Thursday 4th April)
Due to the cooperation of our customers we managed to save a significant amount of water into storage again last night. We will impose water restrictions tonight, starting at 9pm. We will continue to review and monitor the storage levels on an ongoing basis.
Treated water storage is currently at an unsustainably low level. This is as a result of production problems at one of our water treatment plants. There is obviously no problem with storage levels of untreated/raw water and there is no problem with water quality of treated water. Storage levels of treated drinking water are below a normal operational level.
In addition water demand is currently running higher than average due to the cold weather which has caused an increase in leakage. Our crews are repairing any breaks as they arise. To help us in this regard we would ask people to report any location where they see water rising or running.
In an effort to maintain storage we are asking consumers to assist us in maintaining adequate water supplies by restricting their use of water as much as possible. We will be reducing pressures throughout the system in order to conserve supplies. While we will try, as far as possible, to maintain pressures during peak demand periods, pressures will be reduced at other times. This will result in lower pressures and in some cases possible loss of supply. People may notice reductions in pressure or loss of supply from 9pm to between 7am and 9am throughout the entire city.
Dublin City Council regrets any inconvenience caused by these restrictions and will do everything possible to minimise their scale and duration.
Water is precious. Let’s conserve it. Tá uisce luachmhar. CaomhnaÃmÃs é.
