Custom House Quay Contra Flow Bus Lane

From Wednesday morning, May 29th a Contra Flow Bus Lane will open on Custom House Quay which will join with the reinstated Eden Quay Contra Flow Bus Lane.

Below is a breakdown on the changes it will  bring the Dublin Bus routes:

Routes 14, 15, 27/x, 33x, 142 & 151 will re route to the Contra Flow with effect from first bus on Wednesday May 29th ’14. Route 90 will remain as is at Georges Quay.

What this means to drivers is that there will no longer be a right turn from Customs House Quay to Memorial Bridge. Drivers will have to turn left at Berseford Place and loop around behind the Customs House to access the bridge and the South Quays.

We expect this will cause significant delays for the first few days as traffic gets used to the changes and settles down to a new pattern.

Connyngham Works Update

Lots of you have been asking on the show when the left turn lane of Connyngham Rd will reopen, wel it looks like it's going to be the 18th of April.

The 6 metre high and 30 metre long wall is being built on schedule. The ground anchoring is starting on March 18th

Normally retaining wall works like this would take a lot less time but the work has to be carried out in short 5 metre lengths or else more of road could collapse which would include gas mains, and other utilities being damaged.

Add to this the space to work in Bridgewater Quay is very confined as it is necessary to keep entrance road open for traffic and emergency vehicles etc.

Important Newlands Cross Upgrade Information

This Friday 13th of December, (Don't be so superstitious) The N7 Naas Road outbound will see some dramatic changes in its layout. The changes will be made in the evening between 9.30 PM and 6 AM this will have an impact on traffic as will the changes as drivers get used to the new layout.

The main points we would like to get across to motorists are as follows:

The N7 outbound traffic will be diverted onto new temporary lanes. Most of you will have noticed the construction of these lanes over the past few months. There will be 3 lanes plus a bus lane in place, in addition to the right and left turn filter lanes onto Fonthill and Belgard Roads (similar to the existing layout). There will be orange road markings, to show the temporary nature and the extent of the temporary diversion.

There is a 60kph statutory speed limit in place through the works area. We strongly urge all road users to comply with the 60kph speed limit, in the interests of the safety of road users, the public and the construction workers. The Gardaí will be enforcing the speed limits through this area.

There are cyclist and pedestrian facilities available from the Red Cow to Newlands Cross. There are no dedicated cyclist or pedestrian facilities west of Newlands Cross on the N7. There will be 3 traffic lanes available, with no hard shoulder. Of course this will cause problems if there are breakdowns or collisions.

A diversionary route will be put in place for cyclists wishing to travel west from Newlands Cross towards Citywest. South Dublin Co Co strongly advise cyclists to use this route, in the interests of their safety.

Stay tuned to Live Drive for further information.

Changes to Newlands Cross Inbound Today

There is a new layout on the N7 inbound before Newlands Cross.

The right lane at the Green Isle has been taken out. Basically everything has shifted over a lane with the bus lane no longer being a bus lane. The markings have been burnt off the road but it caused a load of confusion this morning.

It also makes it difficult for traffic to merge from Boot Rd to the N7 inbound. This has an impact on the road which runs at the back of the Green Isle Hotel (St. John's Drive or the Old Green Isle Rd). This morning this saw sever congestion with tailbacks as far as Kingswood.

New right turn from St. Stephen’s Green East to Merrion Row

At some stage tomorrow before the evening rush hour kicks in the two right turning lanes from St. Stephen’s Green East to Merrion Row will come into operation.

The right turning lanes provide access to the Northside of the city via Merrion St Upper, Claire St and Westland Row. It will also prove access to the N11 via Baggot St. The works are part of the St. Stephen’s Green Area Traffic Management Scheme which is all being put in place to facilitate the Luas Cross City works.

The works will create a bottle neck for traffic turning left to Dawson St as there will be only one lane to turn left towards Dawson St and St Stephens Green Shopping Centre car parks. This may cause a delay for traffic coming in from the N11 to St Stephens Green East as traffic settles into the new the system.

A new right turn from St. Stephen’s Green South to St. Stephen’s Green West opened last Thursday the 21st of October. This provides an alternative route to York St and access to the St. Stephen’s Green / Grafton St car parks.

When construction of Luas Cross City commences on St Stephen’s Green West, St Stephen’s Green North and Dawson St, there will be a reduction in the capacity for vehicular traffic on Dawson St. Due to this it is necessary to provide alternative arrangements for traffic in the area.

There is a lot going on in the city centre this Sunday, and with their combined powers it is going to be very busy.

O'Connell St will be closed from 2 until 8 on Sunday, Parnell Square will be closed until 1. This will put extra pressure on traffic coming down the North Quays.

There is a new right turn from Stephens Green South to Stephens Green east, this right turn will cause delays for traffic coming from Cork St, at it's worst this could cause delays on the canal and on the South Circular Rd

There will also be works on Merrion Sq which will see lane closures and delays on pretty much all approaches.
