IMPORTANT Newlands Cross Diversions

Newlands Cross underpass is closed due to concrete pouring. As a result Belgard Rd and Fonthill Rd are left turn only and there is no right turn from the N7 outbound to the Fonthill Rd.

We are expecting there to be severe delays later, on both the Belgard Rd and Fonthill Rd and also added delays on the N7 inbound and outbound approaching Newlands Cross.

Our best advice for the evening is to avoid Newlands Cross altogether and use the Outer Ring Rd.

Diversions:

To drive form the Fonthill Rd to Belgard Rd or to the  N7 outbound, turn left at Newlands Cross then loop around on the Luas Bridge to the N7 outbound and on to Newlands Cross where you can either turn left onto the Belgard Rd or keep driving straight out on the N7

To get from the Belgard Rd to Fonthill Rd or N7 inbound. Turn left at the Belgard Rd then loop back around at J2 Kingswood, where you can either keep driving straight on or turn left at Newlands Cross onto the Fonthill Rd.

N7 Outbound to Fonthill Rd must also loop back around at J2 Kingswood and turn left at Newlands Cross onto the Fonthill Rd.

Newlands Cross Layout

So there's been a lot about the new layout on the N7 over the weekend and this morning.

What has happened is that the road now splits in two just after the Green Isle Hotel.

For access to the Fonthill Rd, Luas & M50 Northbound, you need to stay left.

Belgard Rd & M50 Southbound stay right.

For City Centre you can use both. However you are better off staying left as there are two lanes on the left and only one on the right for the city.

The bus lane has been suspended, so people can use the bus lane. However the road markings are still in place which causing some confusion. These markings will be removed tonight.

The extra issue is that people using the right split are merging into one lane for the M50 South and City centre even through the markings clearly state that the right lane is only for Belgard Rd.

This morning there were delays of about 30 minutes to clear Newlands Cross inbound. Hopefully things will improve tomorrow now that people have came through it once.

Significant changes to the N7 Inbound at Newlands Cross

From Sunday there will be changes to the N7 inbound carriageway. Motorists travelling on the N7 Naas Road towards the city will encounter a change in layout on the approach to the Newlands Cross junction, immediately after the Green Isle Hotel.

The existing lanes will split either side of the works for the new flyover. The two lanes to the left will cater for N7 city bound traffic, M50 bound traffic as well as Boot Road, Fonthill Road and local business traffic at Newlands Cross. The two lanes to the right will cater for N7 city bound traffic and Belgard Road traffic.

Motorists are urged to take great caution on the approach to Newlands Cross and to obey the 60km/hr speed limit which is in place.

There is no change to the N7 outbound carriageway layout.

Newlands Cross Changes This Weekend

Changes to the N7 city bound lanes at Newlands Cross will be put in place over the coming weekend, on Friday and Saturday night.

Tonight there will be a change in the junction layout on the approach from Belgard and Fonthill Roads.

From Sunday morning, there will be a reduction in the number of dedicated left and right turn lanes from the N7 Inbound onto Belgard and Fonthill Roads. Right and left turn movements will still be available.

An alternative HGV route for traffic wishing to turn left off the N7 onto Fonthill Road will be provided via Kingswood Junction off the N7.

IMPORTANT Changes to Newlands Cross inbound from Wednesday Morning

There will be a significant layout change to the N7 Naas Road inbound late Tuesday night.

This will have a big effect on N7 inbound traffic Wednesday morning.

Here are the changes:

The N7 inbound traffic will be diverted onto new temporary lanes. The diversion will start from the Boot Road junction with the N7. There will still be 3 traffic lanes in place, in addition to the right and left turn filter lanes onto Fonthill and Belgard Roads (as per the existing layout). Road markings will be orange to show they are temporary.

There is a 60kph statutory speed limit in place through the works area. We strongly urge all road users to comply with the 60 kph speed limit and it will be enforced by Gardai.

These changes are put in pace between 9.30 PM and 6 AM there will be disruptions to traffic on the N7, Belgard Rd and Fonthill Rd.

As traffic settles into this new layout over the coming days there will be delays to traffic on the N7, the Fonthill road and the Belgard road.

When changes were made to the outbound lanes, there were significant delays to traffic for the first day, with delays easing off the next day. We expect this to be the case for Wednesday.

Stay tuned to 103.2 DCFM and check our twitter feed early.

Important Newlands Cross Upgrade Information

This Friday 13th of December, (Don't be so superstitious) The N7 Naas Road outbound will see some dramatic changes in its layout. The changes will be made in the evening between 9.30 PM and 6 AM this will have an impact on traffic as will the changes as drivers get used to the new layout.

The main points we would like to get across to motorists are as follows:

The N7 outbound traffic will be diverted onto new temporary lanes. Most of you will have noticed the construction of these lanes over the past few months. There will be 3 lanes plus a bus lane in place, in addition to the right and left turn filter lanes onto Fonthill and Belgard Roads (similar to the existing layout). There will be orange road markings, to show the temporary nature and the extent of the temporary diversion.

There is a 60kph statutory speed limit in place through the works area. We strongly urge all road users to comply with the 60kph speed limit, in the interests of the safety of road users, the public and the construction workers. The GardaĆ will be enforcing the speed limits through this area.

There are cyclist and pedestrian facilities available from the Red Cow to Newlands Cross. There are no dedicated cyclist or pedestrian facilities west of Newlands Cross on the N7. There will be 3 traffic lanes available, with no hard shoulder. Of course this will cause problems if there are breakdowns or collisions.

A diversionary route will be put in place for cyclists wishing to travel west from Newlands Cross towards Citywest. South Dublin Co Co strongly advise cyclists to use this route, in the interests of their safety.

Stay tuned to Live Drive for further information.

Changes to Newlands Cross Inbound Today

There is a new layout on the N7 inbound before Newlands Cross.

The right lane at the Green Isle has been taken out. Basically everything has shifted over a lane with the bus lane no longer being a bus lane. The markings have been burnt off the road but it caused a load of confusion this morning.

It also makes it difficult for traffic to merge from Boot Rd to the N7 inbound. This has an impact on the road which runs at the back of the Green Isle Hotel (St. John's Drive or the Old Green Isle Rd). This morning this saw sever congestion with tailbacks as far as Kingswood.
