So the UK are introducing a number of new road fines based on anti social driver behavior. Often when laws are introduced across the Irish Sea we quickly follow suit.
New fines will be introduced for tailgating, using the wrong lane on a roundabout and forcing your way into traffic. I can actually feel you all nod in approval.
Another measure being introduced is to tackle drivers who sit in the middle lane of a three lane motorway. Under the new laws, if you hog the middle lane of a motorway you will be fined £100 and get penalty points.
How would you feel about the same penalties coming in here?
About time, however, the wrong lane on a roundabout thing needs to looked at by RSA. Sister recently had an accident on roundabout where she was on inside lane going straight ahead (as was normal for this roundabout), and the other party was in outside lane turning right (3 o'clock 3rd exit). The other party crashed head on into the side of my sisters car as she exited. For me this was black and white (the other party was in wrong lane), but when it went to court the judge found that as my sister was effectively 'changing' lane and it was her fault. The other party's road engineer convinced the judge with an accurate but useless opinion "if two cars go round and round a two lane roundabout side by side, and never exit, there will never be a collision".
ReplyDeleteRoundabouts are a huge personal gripe for me(Producer John) especially proper use.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be a lot of education. The RSA had a video on how to use one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPjIlh9DTZc
Situations like the one you outlined, need to be given as examples to show people what they must do and to clear up what are seriously blurred lines.
