POPE'S VISIT - FAQs

Here in Live Drive we have been getting a lot of questions and queries this week about the traffic and transport situation with regard the Pope's visit this weekend.  We've answered some of your  most frequently asked questions below.  We also have a full blog of road closures and transport information at amlivedrive.blogspot.com   The Journey Planney available at www.transportforireland.ie is also a handy tool!

Don't forget, we're ON AIR to help you around the city this weekend on Saturday from 1pm-6pm and Sunday from 8am-2pm and again from 5pm-7pm/

Q.  I am a resident/ have a business within the controlled access zones, will I still be able to move within these areas?

A.  Gardai will facilitate residents and businesses where possible.  This means that caution will be taken and residents and businesses will be allowed limited movement on these roads where there is no risk to pedestrian safety.  Residents and business owners are asked to carry proof of address or employment for movement within and entry and exit to the controlled zones.

Q.  Will the M50 and Tolls be open this weekend?

A.  The M50 will be open for business as usual this weekend.  However, Junctions 6, 7 and 9 will be closed INBOUND on Sunday between 6am-11pm.  This will undoubtedly mean a greater volume of traffic on the M50 on Sunday.  The East Link toll and Dublin Tunnel will be open for business as usual all weekend as well but do expect extra volume with the city centre road closures.

Q.  Can I cycle in Dublin/ to Phoenix Park on Sunday?

A.  Cyclists will be allowed to cycle within the controlled access areas but will be forced to dismount on roads that are fully closed if it is deemed a safety risk to cycle amongst large groups of pedestrians.  NO bicycles will be allowed in Phoenix Park.  There will be bicycle hubs for attendees at Grangegorman DIT and St Brigid's National School in Blanchardstown.  Cyclists are advised to use these hubs as secure facilities may not be available closer to the Phoenix Park.

Q.  What time are all the roads due to reopen on Sunday?

A.  All roads with the exception of Phoenix Park will be reopened by midnight on Sunday night.  Phoenix Park will reopen on Tuesday the 28th of August.

Q.  Are taxis allowed in the controlled zones at the weekend?

A.  As per the residents and businesses above, taxis will be allowed to move within the controlled zones using caution and where no risk is posed to pedestrians but will not be allowed to use closed roads.
