St. Patrick's Festival 2013 Closures

Begorah it's the St. Patrick’s Festival and with all the merriment and parading there'll be a few closures about the place. 

First up the Fun Fair on Merrion Square West will close from 8 PM on Tuesday 12th March, 2013 to 6 AM on Wednesday the 20th of March.

Diversions:

Traffic from Clare Street / Merrion Street Lower will be diverted via Merrion Square North / Mount Street Lower / Warrington Place / Herbert Place / Baggot Street Lower.
Traffic from Merrion Row and Fitzwilliam Street Lower will be diverted via Baggot Street Lower / Herbert Place / Warrington Street / Mount Street Lower.
Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Second of all the Ceili on St Stephen’s Green North (from Dawson Street to Grafton Street)

This will be closed from Frfrom 12 to 9 PM on Friday the 15th of March.

Diversions:

The Taxi Ranks on St Stephen’s Green North will be suspended and a temporary rank set up on St Stephen’s Green North between Dawson Street and Kildare Street.
Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Thirdly there will be the Music stage on Dame Court for the St Patrick’s Festival.

Dame Court will close from 8 AM Thursday the to 11 PM on Sunday the 17th of March.

Diversions:

Traffic on Exchequer Street for Dame Court will be diverted to South Great Georges Street.
Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Fourthly there is another Fun Fair on Custom House Quay (from Eden Quay to Memorial Road)
SO Custon House Quay will be closed from 10 PM on Friday the 15th to 6 AM on Tuesday the 19th of March.

Diversions:
Traffic from Eden Quay / Butt Bridge wishing to travel on Custom House Quay will be diverted via Beresford Place and Memorial Road
Pedestrian access will be maintained.

And the big on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

There will be a couple of closures to facilitate the parade.

Western Way to Fredrick Street North from10 PM on Saturday the 16th of March, 2013to 2 PM on Sunday the 17th of March.

Dominick Street Upper to Cuffe Street will be closed from 5 AM to 5 PM on Sunday 17th of March, 2013.

St. Stephen’s Green South from8 AM to 6 PM on Sunday the 17th of March.

Diversions:

Traffic on Arran Quay travelling north and east will be diverted via Church Street, Constitution Hill, North Circular Road, Portland Row and Amiens Street.

Traffic on North Wall Quay travelling south will be diverted via City Quay Lombard Street, Westland Row, Merrion Square North, Mount Street Lower and Haddington Road.

Traffic on North Wall Quay travelling west will be diverted via George’s Quay Beresford Place, Gardiner Street, North Circular Road, Infirmary Road, Parkgate Street. 

Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Not satisfied with all of that there is also a Treasure Hunt!

For this Castle Street will close from 9 AM to 6 PM on Monday the 18th of March.

Diversions:

Traffic wishing to travel on Castle Street to Werburgh Street will be diverted via Lord Edward Street
Pedestrian and local access will be maintained.

And..... don;t forget the Big Day Out!

A couple of places will be closed, Merrion Square East, Merrion Square South, Fitzwilliam Street Lower and Mount Street Upper (from Fitzwilliam Street Lower to James’s Street East).

From 7 PM on Friday 1 to 11 PM on Saturday the 16th of March.

Diversions:

Traffic from Merrion Square North / Holles Street wishing to travel on Merrion Square East will be diverted via Mount Street Lower, Warrington Place, Herbert Place and Baggot Street Lower.
Traffic from Fitzwilliam Street Upper / Baggot Street Lower wishing to travel on Fitzwilliam Street Lower will be diverted via Baggot Street Lower, Herbert Place, Warrington Street and Mount Street Lower.
Pedestrian access will be maintained.

For those of you of a healthy inclination there is also the St. Patrick’s Festival 5k Road Race:

Dawson Street (From Nassau Street to St. Stephen’s Green)

From 10 AM 1 PM  on Saturday the 16th of March.

Diversions:

Traffic heading north on Baggot Street Upper and Leeson Street Upper will divert via Mespil Road, Haddington Road, South Lotts Road and Pearse Street for northern traffic, and via Mespil Road and Grand Parade for western traffic.

Traffic heading east on Cuffe Street and St. Stephen’s Green South will divert via Wexford Street to the Grand Canal.

Traffic heading south on Kildare Street and Merrion Square will divert via Clare Street and Mount Street Lower to the Grand Canal.

The following streets will be closed between 12.00hrs and 13.00hrs on Saturday 16th March, 2013 using rolling road closures managed by An Garda Siochana:

St. Stephen’s Green North, Merrion Row, Baggot Street Lower, Baggot Street Bridge, Pembroke Street Lower, Pembroke Street Upper, Fitzwilliam Square North, Fitzwilliam Square West, Fitzwilliam Street Upper, Herbert Street, Mount Street Upper, Herbert Place, Wilton Terrace, Adelaide Road, Earlsfort Terrace, Leeson Street Lower, Leeson Street Bridge.

Local vehicular access and full pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

5K Run Road March 16th Dublin City Centre

Just a heads up on a 5K run scheduled for next week March 16th.

Digital Dublin Day

Not only is it International Women's day but it is also  Digital Dublin Day well at least between 10am – 7pm

What is it?

Digital Day is a day of fun with digital in Dublin City.

It is designed to demonstrate to Dubliners the impact that technology has on their lives and the potential of modern digital technologies. It is designed to encourage innovation and creativity in the ways in which we envisage harnessing technology in the city. It is an Innovation Dublin Day.

However it is not a standalone one day event. Rather it is part of a series of activities belonging to a RoadMap to a Digital Dublin that will lead to the publishing of a first ever Digital Masterplan for the Dublin City region in June 2013.

This Digital Masterplan itself is only the beginning of a relentless effort to ensure the city becomes and remains at the top tier of Digital Cities worldwide. Achieving this goal will ensure much increased economic prosperity for the Dublin City region and guarantee a greater quality of living for residents of Dublin.

Digital Day will have it’s basecamp at the home of the First Citizen of the City, the Lord Mayor.

A ‘pop up’ event space will be created on the forecourt of the Mansion House, Dawson street, Dublin 2. Along with much activity onsite, other activities will take place in the city centre at public WiFi locations, on mobile ‘Digital’ Buses and in many Dublin City businesses throughout the city.

All businesses are being invited to display the Digital Dublin logo and promote their openness for digital in the city. The message is “open to digital” and any business with a digital interface or technological tools is asked to adopt this message.

Activities planned for Mansion House basecamp include:

Free Public WiFi in local area
Coder Dojo involving local schoolchildren with James Whelton.
Apps for Fingal’ display and Dublinked showcasing the use of Open data
eCommerce demonstrations.
Electric Cars onsite and available for test drive (prebooking required)
Creation of digital stories via StoryMap
The story of the Mansion House via StoryMap
Bloggers onsite blogging about digital in the city.
Techspace editing and displaying video interviews with citizens recorded on the day.
Onsite survey re digital with real time display of results.
WiFi provider Gowex on site.
International Womens day ‘vibes of Ireland’ Twitter visualisation.(International Womens’ Day March 8th)
Soundwave.me displaying what music local DigiDubs are listening to
Digital’ talks with James Whelton, Johnny Ryan and others.

About the city activities include:

Libraries mobile bus: Create a digital memory; scan of old photos for silver surfers.
Digitise the nation bus: Mobile eLearning
Video interviews recorded with citizens at WiFi locations;
Digital treasure trail with StortMap
Presence at accenture International Womens Day event RDS.
Digital Workshops for young and older people at the Digital Hub.

Abnormal Load

Another abnormal load will leave Dublin Port tonight at half 9 and is due to arrive on Victoria Quay around 3 in the morning. It will travel via the East Wall Rd, Raheeny, Collins Ave, Ballymun Church St and the South Quays.

Rolling closures and diversions will be in place.

The full route is as follows:

Exit Dublin Port at the O2, turn left onto East Wall Rd turn right to Alfie Byrne Rd, turn right to Clontarf Rd continue along clontarf Rd, turn right onto Main St Raheny Village, at the junction of Station Rd turn left onto Howth Rd, turn right onto Collins Ave, left on Ballymun Rd continue onto St Mobhi Rd, Botanic Rd, Prospect Rd, Phibsborough Rd, Church St, continue Church St, turn right onto Aran Quay where a contra flow will be in operation along Ellis Quay, Wolfe Tone Quay turn left onto Frank Sherwin Bridge, turn left onto Victoria Quay and into Diageo.
