Clean Up Your Act

ROYAL CANAL CLEAN-UP PROJECT

Dublin City North Volunteer Centre Launches Monthly Royal Canal Cleaning

Dublin City North Volunteer Centre has launched a monthly clean-up of the Royal Canal. The first clean-up will be taking place during National Volunteering Week which started yesterday.

The Royal Canal Clean-Up Project began in 2012 during National Volunteering Week – a group of volunteers met for one day and picked litter from along the canalway. Dublin City North Volunteer Centre, in collaboration with a committee of local volunteers, Dublin City Council, Inland Waterways Association of Ireland, are now aiming at making this a recurring event, happening every second Saturday of the month.

Everyone is invited to join for the first clean-up of 2013, taking place during National Volunteering Week. Volunteers will meet at Crossguns Bridge on Phibsboro Road on Saturday 18th May at 11am and will clear the litter along the canal upstream towards Broombridge and downstream towards Croke Park. Pickers, bags and gloves provided by DCC and Waterways Ireland.
