You might not fully believe it but it is the summer and with it comes a whole host of festivals. A live drive favorite is the Docklands Summer Festival which is on this weekend the 18th and 19th of May.
Waterways Ireland Docklands Summer Festival in association with Dublin City Council are . The festival takes place around and near Grand Canal Square. It’s a family-friendly festival featuring a Water Sports-themed programme of events, all at a reduced fee.
There's face painting, balloon modelling, fun fair attractions and an open air art gallery & children’s arts centre in the Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre. And that’s just for the little ones!
There's also a wakeboarding display, charity rubber ducky race and water sport ‘come and try it’ sessions in sailing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, wakeboarding and windsurfing. The MasterCraft Ireland Wakeboard Demonstration team will be showcasing their sport with Ireland's best waterski and wakeboard athletes in Grand Canal Basin.
You can also catch markets, street performers and a helicopter flyover from the Irish Coast Guard.
The cancer research charity Bio Bank Ireland and The Irish Underwater Search and Recovery Unit will benefit from special charity events at the festival.
Local cafes, bars and restaurants, many of which face onto the water, will provide wonderful al fresco facilities. To further tempt your taste buds, ALA Events will provide an array of food markets offering a wide range of foods. Organised by members of Docklands Business Forum and sponsored by Waterways Ireland and Dublin City Council, the 2013 festival is now in its third year.
