Statistics on how Dubliners get to work in the morning
This Transport For Ireland Infographic is based on data retrieved by the National Transport Authority Canal Cordon Report 2006-2011 (published 2013).
Getting Around Dublin City on Average Morning:
37% travelled by car
28% travelled by bus
13% travelled by rail
9% walked
5% travelled by Luas
4% cycled
2% travelled by taxi
2% other
Since 2006 there has been an increase in the proportion of people travelling by:
Foot: up 12%
Luas: up 24%
Bike: 84%
Taxi: 151%
Dublin’s Public Transport usage in 2012:
Rail: 28%
Luas: 12%
Bus: 60%
Dublin’s Walking & Cycling usage in 2012:
Cycle: 32%
Walk: 68%
In 2012, on an average morning in Dublin City:
52,000 passengers travelled by bus into the city.
24,000 passengers travelled by rail into the city.
17,000 passengers travelled by foot into the city.
10,000 passengers travelled by Luas into the city.
8,000 passengers travelled by bike into the city.
Which means that in 2012:
86,000 passengers used public transport in Dublin City on an average morning.
